Fiercely Loyal | Wedding Thursday | Arizona Wedding Photographer

I’m writing this while I’m sitting in the airport waiting to board our plane to Idaho! Colbie is sitting next to me coloring in her coloring book and this trip is already going 10x better than I expected! Jake has to stay home this trip for dental school, so it’s just us. (Update: I finished this while on the plane....a toddler's attention span is only so long! :))

A couple weeks ago, I got a new phone and when I got it, it didn’t transfer over all the contacts. So for the past few weeks I’ve been trying to figure out who’s who when they message me. Well, just after that I got a message from a random friend that said: “I saw this on fb and thought you might like it for a wedding blog!”. Then she sent me a quote.

That text made me super happy both before and after I figured out who had sent it! It was so sweet that she thought of me and my blog of all things!

As I’m sitting here in the airport, just after saying good bye to Jake (my husband) for a week in a half,  I couldn’t help but reflect on the quote she sent me!

“When you are married, be fiercely loyal one to another”. – Gordon B. Hinckley

Fiercely loyal! I loved that wording.  It automatically made me think of a blogpost my dear friend wrote a few years ago. I loved it so much that it’s stuck with me since.  I wish I could just give you the link to read it because it was so much better than anything I could write, but I searched and searched and couldn’t dig it up in time for this blogpost. If I do find it I’ll share it!

So I’ll just briefly sum it up! She said that a study was done on two groups of people who were told to select paintings from a studio for their home. One group was told that they could select any painting they wanted and if they didn’t like it they could return it and trade it out for another one.  The second group was told that they would only be able to select one painting and that they couldn’t exchange it or trade.

Each group went through and picked out their paintings, comparing and contrasting.

What they found from this study was interesting. The people who had the choice of going back and selecting a different painting were less satisfied with their choices, while they also found that the group that only had the one choice were generally more content and happy with their decisions.

What does this have to do with marriage? Well she went on to say that when you go in to marriage with the idea that you can exchange if you don’t end up liking it, it leads to less satisfaction with your choice because you end up always comparing it to what you could have. And then the opposite, that when you go into marriage, with the decision from the beginning that this is your one choice, you compare less, work harder, and are more satisfied with your decision and marriage.

I loved that blogpost. I didn’t really do it justice, but you get the idea! Hopefully I’ll get to share the link sometime. So, with all that being said, think about that quote again.

“When you are married, be fiercely loyal one to another.”.  –Gordon B. Hinckley

Maybe it’s the fact that I’m going to be away from my hubby for two weeks and  am feeling emotional about it, but I just have to say that I am so grateful for my husband, for how supporting, loving, kind, and fiercely loyal he is to me. I could never have found a better husband, even if I searched a thousand years! We’re not perfect, but we work hard and love each other "fiercely".

Hope you all have a fabulous week!

Xoxo
